I’ve been swatching & mixing Schmincke’s new Naturals.
I love their Liquid Earths but this paint is most odd.
Claggy & needs mixing with lots of water.
Takes ages to dry.
Will post sketchbook swatches later.
Think it may have been a waste of money.

An older, scruffy unicorn on a solitary journey through some fields and forests. A couple of crows watch as he walks by.

A4 arches hot press paper.
Schmincke watercolours, coloured pencils, microns and postercolour highlights.

Schmincke Naturals swatched on cold press.
They are described as a fusion of watercolour & gouache.
The more diluted swatches are beautiful.

They remind me of William Blake’s poetry illustrations.
Will do a small copy of one to give them a try out using hot press paper.

Postman’s just delivered this book from Wob & a Fabriano watercolour sketchbook.

I thought copying Samuel Palmer would give the Schmincke Naturals a proper test.
Although my heart is with earlier art I’m drawn to 18 & 19c visionary artists.
