#REPowerEU has delivered on many fronts, but especially in the #renewables sector.

For instance, last year, Europe generated more electricity from wind than from gas, as wind power grew by a record 55 TWh. In 2021 wind constituted 14% in the electricity mix & in 2023 it was 19%.

In 2022, the EU generated more #electricity from #renewables than from #gas . In 2023, #windpower took over gas in electricity production.

Thanks to EU citizens', businesses' and countries' actions, the EU 🇪🇺 overachieved its voluntary target to reduce gas demand by 15%.

Natural gas demand declined by 18% between Aug-22 & Mar-24, saving 125 bcm of gas as a result👏!

#REPowerEU  means a more secure and independent energy system for 🇪🇺

Gas prices are now back around pre-war levels.

And on March 31st, at the end of the heating season, our gas storages were over 58% full ‐ a record high for that time of the year.

In two years of #REPowerEU we collected many achievements, but we need to keep going.

Our goal is to phase out completely Russian fossil fuel by 2027 and that renewable energy accounts for at least 42.5% of our energy consumption by 2030.

Let’s also note that a major component of the REPowerEU plan is a big uptake in heat pumps to replace gas furnaces. The past few weeks have shown the bold aspirations for heat pumps may not materialize — because gas is cheaper.

More than 130 GW of new #RenewableEnergy has been deployed since the #REPowerEU plan was launched in 2022. It corresponds to gas savings of 24 billion cubic meters 👏
