This winter is challenging not only for our Bat Rehab Centre but for our colleagues in Romania.
They already had 3500 Noctule in Bat Rehab facilities near Bucharest.
This week we had a zoom call for sharing experience of best practices for rehabilitation such numerous groups.

Thank you to everyone who came on our bat 🦇 walk last night! We were treated to fabulous views of a Barn Owl hunting, heard Tawny Owls, and saw and heard 5 species of bats including Soprano pipistrelle, Common Pipistrelle, Noctule, Barbastelle and Brown Long-eared!

Spotted some nice wildlife at Cirencester Park whilst walking the dog this week. A Goshawk (I think ?) hunting and also unusually a bat (Soprano or Noctule maybe ???) hunting in the daytime.

3 Nightjars churring and calling as well as 2 Squeaking juv Long eared owls in Notts tonight 🦉 Also Woodlark, 2 Cuckoo, C.5 Woodcock roding, several Tawnies heard, lots of Noctule and smaller bat species out at dusk

Another bat, this time a #migratory species, the lesser noctule or Leisler's bat (Nyctalus leisleri)! 🦇

The smallest #noctule species, in Catalonia is abundant in pine forests, and can be easily monitored when it forms its mating harems in bat boxes!

The noctule bat (Nyctalus noctula), so common in other parts of Europe, is only found in one urban park in #Catalonia ! 🏙️🌳

Specifically, it is only found in the city park of #Lleida , which you can go visit after the #EBRS2024 :

A quick test of contiguous recording, which requires me to play 'bats' (synthesized Noctule and pip socials) at the device while also playing recognisable music at it, so I can check end of file A / beginning of B. Working perfectly, no missed beats!

Sightings from the house/garden last couple of days saw this Red Kite fly by, daily Siskin overhead, lots of Bee activity and an early? Noctule Bat out of roost in the evening last night

The song thrush sings at sunset while Noctule bats are out of hibernation and darting around the lake catching insects which can only mean one thing…bat detecting season has started!🦇📡
