A shot from our visit to the unfinished obelisks of Aswan Quarry today. This angle shows it all - each scoop was ONE continuous motion from the top all the way down underneath the obelisk (into the rose granite, a 7 on Mohs scale)

A Roman Apiary at Xemxija, Malta.

Each niche held a pottery beehive with a small hole to the exterior and a larger one to the passage. This latter was blocked until the beekeeper wished to remove the honeycomb.

I am incredibly lucky to have a ticket to the sold out Rival Consoles gig tonight at @barbicancentre thanks to co-promoter Baba Yaga's Hut. So I had to leave time for a look at the Roman fort remains around the corner. Thread 1/

👀💭 The Trembling Rock is a 132 ton block of granite in France that anyone can visit & move a little because of the way it's positioned. This technique along with the “ is how the ’s would have moved & positioned the stones.

Bitcoinpleb Polar Nerd What's your point, the earlier ones were MORE white, not less. More fair, more blonde, more ginger. People bring up Greece as if Cleopatra was some sort of exception. Sub-Saharan Africans did not have metal, did not build megalithic structures, and did not rule the Mediterranean.

The story begins in about 9,000 BC.

This is Göbekli Tepe in Turkey, the oldest megalithic site in the world. What do we know about the people who built it, or what they built it for? Very little.

But what we do know we can glean from the decorative carvings they left behind.

Two megalithic tombs near Kleinenkneten in Lower Saxony that go back to the Neolithic Funnelbeaker culture. The first one with 50 m length and single grave chamber was reconstructed, while the second barrow is 34 m long and shows three open grave chambers.

Sacsayhuaman Peru...
There are MANY theories on how megalithic walls and structures like these were built.
What intrigues me is WHY they were such incredibly unusual shapes and fitted that way.
Was there was something the ancients were trying to convey?
If so...any ideas?🤔
