From last Tuesday. I was on the return and noticed a flash of orange. This was my first encounter with this flower/plant. It's been an amazing adventure, watching one small area transform through the seasons. I'm excited to see it through.
Himalayan balsam (or 'kiss-me-on-the-mountain') is a beautiful, but invasive, species. Its dank, bitter smell transports me to playing by rivers as a child when I was enchanted by its exploding seed pods 🩷🧡🩷🧡 The orange version is also known as orange jewelweed.
Despite its broad range, I had my first experience with Jewelweed (Impatience capensis) while in Quebec City this week. A fascinating plant that once touched will not soon be forgotten. fs.usda.gov/wildflowers/pl…
