Your plant of the day is Hydnora Africana. Despite its flowers resembling vulvas, we can confidently say it doesn't take after them in any other ways. But it is pretty cool.

Hydnora africana is a plant with an unusual flower, 3 fleshy lobes are fused into one, emitting a foul odour to attract its main pollinators dung beetles and carrion beetles which it traps inside to ensure pollen is picked up.

This is Hydnora Africana, a parasitic plant. In order to attract its natural pollinator (dung beatles), it gives off an odor that apparently smells like poop.

Hydnora africana
Es una planta parasitaria que crece en el continente africano, en unas pocas regiones de sudamérica y también centroamérica. Esta planta emite un olor fétido al igual que otras, el cual le permite atrapar a sus presas. Sus frutos son muy sabrosos.

The bizarre floral appearance of Hydnora africana seems almost extraterrestrial, but in fact it is finely adapted for pollination in its arid habitat. This plant, a resident of southern Africa, only emerges from the soil to flower.

Good morning, meet Hydnora africana, the jakkalskos or jackal food plant! It's parasitic and grows in Africa on the roots of plants in the Euphorbiaceae family and has no leaves or chlorophyll. In fact it lives completely underground until the alarmingly fleshy flower emerges. 🌸
