Yesterday’s budget proposal for human services programs causes me to be alarmed for our most vulnerable populations particularly in our CalWorks, Development Disability, and Foster Care programs. 1/3

We can't afford to go backwards when it comes to CalWORKs! As federal policymakers acknowledge the lack of evidence supporting a work-first model, California can continue leading the way by strengthening, rather than cutting, the program.

The governor’s budget proposes withdrawing all $900 million from the Safety Net Reserve (SNR) along with significant ongoing cuts to CalWORKs. Zeroing out the reserve would put unwarranted pressure on the General Fund in an economic downturn
