Good news for Scottish gardeners - I found the wasp Lemaphagus errabundus - biocontrol of the dreaded Lily beetle, Liliocerus lilii. Several individuals at Culloden resting on infested lilies. Checking NBN shows this is a very long way north of the nearest records in s. England.

I don't usually promote any products, but a grower showed me how usefully this hand scope has helped him monitor pests in his tomatoes and time properly biocontrol agent releases. It is not the best in video and pictures, but it is useful enough for monitoring purposes

I had a chance to watch Butterfly Diversity & Evolution Lab amazing talk at BiodIBErsity Day 2024 while visiting Barcelona for the Genetic BioControl. Incidentally, Roger found the invasive fire ants in Europe (Sicily). Once the fire ants have settled, they are notoriously difficult to eliminate.

These are some aphid (black fly) infested leaves in our cherry crop. Two weeks ago we introduced a predator known as aphid midge, whose slug-like green larvae (in picture) paralyze the aphids and feed on them by sucking out their body contents. Biocontrol in action.
