“Voters are tired of hearing the excuses for why Multnomah County is a mess; they want fundamental changes, more openness, accountability and results,” Adams told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Thursday. “And they want it now. That’s what I offer, I am a proven change maker.”

Third time's the charm?

After a 3rd-place City Council finish in 2020 and departing a high-profile job in Ted Wheeler's administration under a cloud, former Portland Mayor Sam Adams makes the runoff — and secures one last shot at a political comeback.

Jessie Burke concedes: “My hope is the remaining candidates understand the dysfunction within the county and that the time for ideological policies is over,” she said. “The role of the government is to do work and serve the public — it is not performative identity politics.”

It's Sam v. Shannon in MultCo District 2.

Adams, who is attempting his third political comeback in recent years, maintained the slight edge he’s held, garnering 24% of ballots cast to Burke’s 22% — a difference of 809 votes — in near final returns.

Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson has decamped from her longtime Hazelwood home to a new $1.2M residence in Portland's West Hills.

Quite the rewrite of JVP's political narrative, which she's largely built around her East Portland bonafides.

Probably gonna be a real awkward next 223 days for many in the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. 😬

'His campaign spokesperson, Andrew Rogers, said Schmidt intends to serve until the end of his term on Dec. 31.'

'At OPB’s request, MultCo’s public health team conducted a new review of the past 10 years of cardiac arrest survival rates in the county.

That analysis revealed numerous inaccuracies in the cardiac arrest data that the county had provided to Willamette Week & OPB in April.'

Amazing--though maybe unsurprising--how close Singleton/Adams/Burke results are tracking w/ Hardesty/Gonzalez/Mozyrsky in 2022 (yes, one is county commission district, the other at-large City Council).

Also, final Vasquez-Schmidt tally likely to = Gonzalez-Hardesty or v close.

'It took 2 months before Central City Concern staff checked on the well-being of one of their Portland tenants, despite repeated calls from the man’s sister & father & a missing persons report to the county sheriff’s office, a new lawsuit alleges.'

'To overcome Vasquez’s strong support in [east county / Portland's west side], Schmidt needed to capture 60% to 65% of the vote in inner east side precincts —but he failed to deliver consistently strong results across the precincts he ended up carrying.'

So the remaining questions in Portland area races:
1. Can Tootie Smith force a runoff in Clackamas? Maybe
2. Can Vince Jones Dixon avoid one in Multnomah county district 4? Probably
3. Will Sam Adams hang onto the 2nd runoff slot in Multnomah county district 2? Who knows.
