In a presser, Minister Mohsin Naqvi reiterated “the need for strict laws' to address disinformation.

He then gave the example of Middle East, stating, 'There, if you even tweet a picture of water flooding the streets, see what happens to you.”

That's censorship. Not disinfo.

Today we demand that we separate the lies from the truth and shed light on the very words in 295-C that have created terror and horror in the name of a man who taught us mercy and compassion

In 2023, the Board accepted a request from Meta to review how it moderates the Arabic term “shaheed” for individuals that it deems dangerous.

Today, we urge Meta to end its blanket ban on content using “shaheed” and instead adopt a contextual moderation approach.

Rules referenced here are those introduced when PTI was in govt. These were opposed, multiple challenges were filed before the IHC, there was supposed to be a review. Instead, they are still in the field. Actions when in government matter. Reflect & learn.

X banned in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Interior minister and PTA chairman continue to feign ignorance.

Interior minister asked if X blocked on direction of his ministry, he replied: “I don’t think so”.

Adds vague excuse about the need for “laws”.

“Twitter was already banned when we came into govt. There is no official notification for it but obviously, everyone can see that its signal and frequency are not working as normal and it is being used through VPN,' Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said.

And it begins. 'We need more laws' to counter 'fake news' & strengthen defamation narrarive. Because Defamation Ordianance, 499 & 500 of PPC & 20 of PECA don't already exist? Laws are implemented through same broken system. Malicious proceedings swift, genuine ones face delays.

So the new Information Minister has decided to blatantly lie about the like his predecessor. Utter cowardice to be unable to even acknowledge or defend censorship by your Masters while staying in power.

PTA refuses to provide *any* explanation to SHC for the 20 day long Twitter ban despite unblocking orders. Instead of taking action in the absence of even a flimsy justification, the SHC has told them to give another response 2 weeks later. Judicial complicity in censorship.

PTA, Pakistan's internet regulator, denies blocking Twitter (X) in Pakistan during a hearing at Sindh High Court. I have a question for @ElonMusk: Did your company block X in Pakistan?

Very concerning & draconian resolution proposed by PPP Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi recommending govt to ban all social media platforms.

Political sprites should be working to support young people & IT sector; not taking Pakistan back to stone age.

Caretaker PM tells Urdu News he 'thinks' Twitter has been 'restored' in the country.

Not a word on why it was blocked.

Adds that if there are 'technical issues' the new govt will resolve them.

No explanation on what 'the technical issues' are.
