So that’s *all* STEM courses in the entire country slashed then, leaving us with courses that are definitely not rocket science…

Ironically the number of international staff and students in an institution is an important component of how rankings are calculated. Another is international reputation, which is helped by those grads overseas. Reducing international numbers will reduce your ranking position.

Every MP pushing for a reduced university sector should be asked if they would like to close the one nearest their constituency.

I absolutely, unequivocally guarantee that there are no circumstances in the modern global context in which planning to educate fewer people to lower standards, which is what having fewer universities means, is good for anyone except our competitors.

Seriously, this is refreshing. Way too late. But refreshing. Can you imagine where we’d be if all university managements had said this ages ago, rather than punish/dismiss/intimidate staff who spoke out?

Everyone with an ounce of understanding of UKHE is providing a shitton of evidence that this is a structural failure and cannot be sorted by some local savings. And yet government keeps fragmenting and isolating.

In other bleak news, universities in the UK are going down pretty fast. Really painful to see the language programs go.
