My daughter lost a tooth today. She’s become increasingly suspicious of the Tooth Fairy (without overtly asking) so it came as no surprise when she looked at me directly at bedtime & said “I put a note for the tooth fairy under my pillow. In the very middle. Really hard to get.”

Cooking when you have ADHD is knowing enough to set a timer when something is in the oven but then forgetting why you set the timer so you turn it off & you burn the meal anyway.

Why is it you always have the best hair days on the days you’re not doing anything or going anywhere?

Doctor’s office: We need to reschedule your June 10 physical, next available is July 20th.

Me: Sorry, I will be out of town

Office: (irritated) Well, are there any days you ARE available?

Me: I’m free June 10.

Oh they are. So many things you can’t easily explain that happen in hospitals, especially in rooms where people recently or tragically died.

every time I leave the house and walk around in the sun I’m like wait. WAIT. staying inside sitting in a chair all day might actually be really bad for me

Every once in awhile, you have a patient who reminds you why you do this work. You connect with them in a sudden, palpable, delightful way. They enjoy you as much as you enjoy them. You leave fulfilled & grateful to do this work.

Recently I learned that the act of sending your friends & family little videos and tweets and memes you find online it’s called pebbling, like how penguins bring pebbles back to their little penguin loved ones 🥹

At the store just now the clerk saw I was buying a 50 lb bag of dog food. He assessed me, then respectfully said “You look like you can carry this out no problem. You good?”

Damn right I’m good.

And yes, I carried it out over one shoulder, no problem. 💪🏻

How does your unit handle interruptions during shift change report? Is the unit closed to non-emergent phone calls/visitors for a period of time?

We keep getting interrupted with family phone calls or physicians rounding and it is an issue. Curious how other units handle it.
