Yep. The key consequence of all three of the most recommended strategies for implementing genAI in orgs: ignore, ban, and 'all hands' that I detail here.

Scientifically-backed alternatives are clear, and readily available: wildworldofwork.org/p/how-to-handl…

Oh, this is cool (not saying it's good or bad, or I agree or disagree - just that it's good they published it): more transparency on how OpenAI shapes model output before it's presented to us.

Thrilled to announce AlphaFold 3 which can predict the structures and interactions of nearly all of life’s molecules with state-of-the-art accuracy including proteins, DNA and RNA. Biology is a complex dynamical system so modeling interactions is crucial blog.google/technology/ai/…

Yes. And be sure to avoid the three most commonly recommended/implemented strategies out there. They ignore most of the research on implementing disruptive technologies in organizations:

Thought you guys might like this ice cream cone filler I designed the automation for. I designed the electrical enclosures; selected all electrical and pneumatic components; wrote the schematics; hand built all the electrical panels; then I wrote all the controller software and…

Read Edhat every day for my 'what's up' in Visit Santa Barbara - local, citizen reporting and community conversation.

So seeing my book up in lights there hits different. A special kind of honor that no big outlet could provide.

To my dear colleagues out there doing qualitative, inductive research:

We are very 'exposed' to generative AI.

At the least, apps based on this will speed induction of first-order and second-order codes.

At most? Your edge will be access to data, primarily.

“Technology is not a threat, but how we are using it is. We’re getting more productivity from experts with intelligent technologies at the expense of novice involvement, which blocks their skill development.” — Matt Beane

Wow. As someone who creates diagrams at work, this is a godsend if it works. This is what 'appified' genAI looks like - the kind that will offer us significant boosts over unrefined LLMs via chatbot interface.

And, by the way, *love* this product intro - humor is so underrated!

How to handle genAI in organizations, according to science

Right now, everyone's gotten into genAI, and that includes organizations. But the three defaults are ignore, ban, and 'all hands'. These aren't viable or backed by the science. What is?

Can't believe this was only 9 months ago. Harder to find a more prescient take on AI, even today:

Congrats to Tesla Optimus team on another stellar update! The video gives us a peek at their human data collection farm, which I believe is Optimus' biggest lead. What does it take to build such a pipeline? Optimus nailed all of the following:

1. Optimus hands are among the…

Understudied, underrated value from LLMs: fun and play.

How much is the genuine delight that flows from this kind of fooling around - both in the doing and then in consuming the output (mmm, garlic bread metameme ftw) - worth, and why?

New humor genre, too. That's real value.

We trained a robot dog to balance and walk on top of a yoga ball purely in simulation, and then transfer zero-shot to the real world. No fine-tuning. Just works.

I’m excited to announce DrEureka, an LLM agent that writes code to train robot skills in simulation, and writes more…

I am so very honored, and glad @ucsb - I care about these issues, the cost of ignoring them is unacceptable, but that's what we're doing.

So this attention boost will make a difference in the quest to preserve human ability as we develop increasingly intelligent machines.

Inverted apprenticeships involve reassigning novices to allow an expert to build skill with new technologies while saving face.

They also teach us a significant lesson: your formal title and status don't always correlate with your expertise.

Ever been in one?

Went to the Seinfeld, Maniscalo, Bargatze, Gaffigan show Hollywood Bowl last night, and they *all* had bits (plural) about AI.

This place makes it seem like AI is two years old.

The world's just waking up to it.

They're on again tonight, btw:
