SeaBlue Canada We need to protect environmentally sensitive ecosystems against heavy industrial industries like shipbreaking. Canada 🇨🇦 must adopt international shipbeaking regulations before it's too late! Nathan Cullen Protect Baynes Sound!

Every log sort on the coast can become a shipbreaking facility. Nathan Cullen states that logs and derelict vessels over 500GT are not materially different; so no community consultation required. Look like logs to you? #021050

Really? Nathan Cullen George Heyman Josie Osborne Bruce Ralston this is where your government decision maker approved a shipbreaking facility? Dragging vessels over 500GT across shallow beach to uplands where Comox Valley RD states shipbreaking does not follow bylaws?

Environmental Compliance BC Does this look in compliance? This happens every time it rains. And your enforcement is a pathetic $500 fine?? This is an environmental catastrophe in progress. SHUT DEEP WATER RECOVERY DOWN! West Coast Environmental Law Ecojustice

Do you know what separates a family with 2 little boys from this shipbreaking facility? Nothing! FLNRO approved the change in purpose without community consultation. DWR is taking the only separation between us and this site! It can happen to anyone because BC NDP failed us.

Deep Water Recovery has been breaking ships in Baynes Sound since late 2020, and has left a trail of court cases, a pollution abatement order, and loud opposition from the community.
This timeline serves to help outline the intricacies of this operation. thediscourse.ca/comox-valley/t…

A court decision has shed light on the use of a drone in the ongoing battle between neighbours and a Shipbreaking operation in Union Bay.

Good to see Deep Water Recovery face some accountability, though more must be done to clarify regulation/jurisdiction and strengthen enforcement. Proud to support the Concerned Citizens of Baynes Sound thru our Enviro Dispute Resolution Fund.

So in this article, the ship breaking operator calls his business “ship dismantling,” and in another article he says they do “ship repair.” It is in the public’s best interest to understand what’s really happening there and seeing drone footage makes it darn clear.
