Most people want to know which camera to use. That only matters when you conceive of a specific shot ahead of time. Magic happens when you’re lucky to be in the right place at the right time & paying attention. That’s when the camera you are using doesn’t make a difference.

According to experts, it’s thought that this month the algorithm favors close up images w/ saturated colors.⁣ In an effort to be ahead of the trend, I’ve opted for a pulled back frame w/ no eye contact & muted colors. Nvm I’ve chosen Mr. McConaughey as my algorithmic test pilot.

Location scouting should be called the drawing board, picture making prequel, sound check, or songwriting. It’s so much more important than what it’s mechanical moniker implies. Photographs should be thought out and carefully planned. So get out there and scout for your supper.

It’s called “in-camera” when you shoot a picture and everything that’s supposed to be happening is actually happening all at the same time in-camera. ⁣As in-camera two-shots go, I’m real proud of this beauty we did w/ Canyon Design Group for Netflix for the show Frontera Verde.

If there was a photo that sums up my approach to photography, it would be this. Go in moving and do your best to keep it graceful. The moments will happen. ⁣

This was literally one of the first digital photographs I ever made. Stowe Richards, who was one of the only people in the world operating digital systems at the time, brought the digital back to Russia and put it on the back of my Hasselblad 503cw.

There are great projects. There are special projects. And there are Unicorn projects. Frontera Verde for Netflix was indeed a unicorn. We got to go deep into the Amazonas region and make really beautiful images with an extraordinary group of people. Doesn’t get better.⁣

This was taken on a Nikon USA D800, severely under exposed. Obviously It wasn’t a planned photograph, but the strange texture and fall apart quality the intense detail recovery gave the image is the kind of happy accident I chase down like a dirty martini at an airport lounge.⁣⁣

The plan for the shoot was for just the two of us to walk around Rome with my #NikonFE , shooting very low key reportage style, buying film for the camera at tourist gift shops along the way. ⁣⁣No team, no crew. Just him & I. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣Still to this day one of my favorite shoots.
