“I didn't know what to do to help people as they burned,” he said. Around him there were “dismembered bodies, charred bodies, children without heads, bodies as if they had melted,” he said.

3M knowingly pushed a dangerous chemical for decades. Finding someone who DIDN'T have it in their blood became the challenge

This is a portrait of what it's like to discover a terrible secret, what it's like to keep it. A cover-up thru the eyes of those involved in the covering

For years, I wished someone inside 3M could give me insight into the company’s decision to keep making and selling “forever chemicals” even though they were accumulating in people. Then I met Kris Hansen... propublica.org/article/3m-for…

Unsurprisingly, this was my favorite photo of the day, celebrating with our incredible research editor, Lynn Dombek.

Lexi Churchill, we must recreate this with you and the rest of the research team when we're all together!

I'm still in complete disbelief that our team's work was named a Pulitzer Finalist yesterday.

We can only hope this recognition draws greater attention to the policy and training failures that led to the inexcusable police response in Uvalde, nearly 25 years after Columbine.

Use our migrant child labor data!

More children are crossing the border on their own than ever before, and thousands are ending up doing dangerous, illegal jobs.

We sued the government for a huge trove of data about these kids, and shared it all here: github.com/nytimes/hhs-ch…

This is such an important story. Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg 🇵🇸 + Ethan Corey on the predatory, unregulated system--fueled by private equity--that forces incarcerated people to pay outrageous prices for everything from reading glasses to deodorant. Great data reporting:

When ProPublica began reporting on the Supreme Court, Justin Elliott and Josh Kaplan had no sources at all. But they made >1,000 calls.

“Many, many, many, many people said no to us, or just didn’t return our calls.”

So they kept calling.
