What Barak Ravid and most news outlets have been calling a sanction against IDF Netzah Yehuda unit is incorrect (except for Brett Murphy who broke story at ProPublica) It’s not an added punitive manner. It is enforcement of Leahy Law. This thread by my colleague explains it.

US operation to defend Israel over the past week cost $1 billion. Outrageous or worth it? Nothing's discounted when it comes to the Pentagon.

Q: Have you been presented an Israeli plan for an operation in Rafah, whether limited or a major invasion?

PENTAGON: At this point there's been discussions —ongoing technical discussions — in terms of enabling the Israelis to understand the key points that we're making and

Q: The Israelis have made significant preparations to evacuate roughly a million people out of Rafah ahead of a potential invasion. Can you speak to those efforts?

PENTAGON: 'I really can't.'

War has become so normalized within the confines of the U.S. national security apparatus that we don’t even consider months-long air campaigns as worthy of the W-word label anymore (see Libya 2011; Red Sea/Yemen 2023-2024). It’s astounding if you think about it.
