Journalism is not a crime and must never be. The media's role in a democracy is fundamental and civic space must be protected. Effective self regulation mechanisms are necessary to check abuse but never with the use of state paraphernalia or through press attacks.

It's been seven days since the arbitrary arrest and continued detention of Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ)'s reporter, Ojukwu Justin Daniel (OJD) by Nigeria Police Force for simply doing his job of holding power to account as a journalist.

I remember this day vividly. You did an excellent reporting of the election, especially those videos on vote-buying. It was easy to spot the special talent. Happy to see the progress you've made since then and I look forward to many more years of positive impact. Cheers 🥂

You are not doing a journalist who asked for comments a favour by responding. You have a right to decline comment. But you have no right to label a journalist doing their job “fake news reporters”. As someone who calls himself a founder it reflects poorly on you and your brand.

I love how Nigerian journalists approached this. Schooling the 'complainant' on fair reporting and backing their colleague for being professional. I second, third fourth...all their submissions.
