CK Christine Keeves, MPH (she/her) is my ride-or-die. We met doing social justice work in Boston. She’s walked into fire with me on behalf of the greater good, including co-founding 💙#MarkedByCovid #FBLC, and I couldn’t imagine living life without her and our fur-family.

Disability is a full time job that you don’t get paid for. You have to make doctor’s appointments, find caregivers, get medical devices, medications, help with chronic pain, and do all the regular life things on top of it. To say being disabled is exhausting is an understatement.

Documents obtained under FOIA reveal 'at least 6,212 patients caught COVID in hospital in 24 months...Of those, 586 died...with men dying at a higher rate than women [11% vs 8%].'

Nearly 1 in 10 patients who caught COVID in the hospital died. How can anyone find this acceptable?

Students protest against “US complicity in genocide” (VietNam) & against security force presence on their campus.

Authorities blame “outside agitators”.

US National Guard fire 60+ shots in 13 secs into protestors; 4 dead, 9 wounded

Just heard a shocking stat on NPR. It cost $300,000 a year to incarcerate a juvenile offender! 🤯

The best private schools in my community cost less than 1/10 of that amount. 🏫

We’d actually have lower taxes if we opted to educate instead of incarcerate.💰🤷🏽‍♂️

These are some of the many reasons why we will be caught flat-footed, again.

We need better ways for early signals to trigger readiness and response measures…globally.

At this point, there shouldn’t be dairy cattle at a state fair. Unfortunate for many kids & 4Hers who’ve raised their prize cow for show this year. Dept. of Agriculture & state Ag Depts shouldn’t allow mixing of dairy cows anywhere until H5N1 outbreak clear. Very risky.

There's never good time to stop collecting & reporting data. But in midst of nationwide outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in food supply animals and other mammals, all in close/constant interface with humans, seems to be one of the worst times to turn off the…

This is a fantastic initiative. As the climate crisis worsens we need to stop considering AC a luxury. Especially if you live in a high rise or concrete jungle … temperatures can become unbearable. We have minimum standards for heat so people don’t freeze - we need them for AC.

📣 Today in The Sick Times we have a feature by Melody Schreiber on what we currently know about bird flu and its risk to people. Experts have said there are clear echoes of Covid-19 failures in this outbreak response.

Johan nature Michael Worobey If it goes human-human transmission, you don't want to know. Hopefully we won't see that. But we're not ready for that worst case scenario.

We’ll never get in front of this outbreak, and learn for the next, if we neglect to test all exposed workers and all cattle. If we don’t find a way to do so soon, this has a great potential to worsen.

Are there innovative low cost, rapid ways to test cattle?
