No one should forget that Israel’s covert operation to surveil, threaten and intimidate the ICC continued during Bennett–Lapid government. Former defense minister Gantz actively contributed to the effort by designating 6 Palestinian human rights groups as terrorist organizations.

Nothing surprising or shocking about the Mossad’s illegal and dirty tactics to intimidate, threaten and bully ICC officials seeking to hold Israeli war criminals accountable. If these unlawful practices go unpunished they will become a popular playbook for authoritarian regimes.

No one should be fooled by Israeli hasbara. If the military strikes comport with the laws of war and the principles of proportionality and precautions why not allow international independent investigation to determine that? Israel can’t be trusted to investigate itself. Period.

The resilience of the Palestinians in Gaza and their love for life and for their homeland will be taught in history books.

Any attack on the independence of the ICC, including threats to sanction judges and prosecutors, must unequivocally be rejected. Biden Administration should not even entertain the idea of supporting legislative proposals that would sanction the court and undermine its legitimacy.
