#OnThisDay 05/11/1984: The Pullman Railroad Strike began when 3,000 Pullman workers went on a wildcat strike. Many of the strikers belonged to the American Railroad Union (ARU) founded by Eugene Debs.
#OnThisDay 05/10/1937: The Transport Workers Union (TWU) joins the CIO as a national union. The union was founded by #communists in 1934 to organize #subway workers in New York City. A sit-down #strike of subway workers in January 1937 was the tipping point.

#OnThisDay 05/09/1800: John Brown was born. He was an #abolitionist who came to believe that #slavery would never be ended in the US through purely peaceful means. He formed an army of black & white people dedicated to ending slavery by any means necessary.
#OnThisDay 05/07/1907: On 'Bloody Tuesday' during the San Francisco Streetcar Strike of 1907, police & strikebreakers opened fire on striking workers. The workers were striking for an 8-hour day and $3 daily wage.
