Looka here. Some of these fests find Black representation only through rappers or R&B groups. Others completely leave out anyone who isn’t white/straight. So when we ask the audience why they don’t feel comfortable at these festivals, the lineups are one of the reasons.

i have always quietly believed that the main reason for her astronomical success is the fact her art is basically the white woman psyche unselfconsciously singing itself.

my theory remains undefeated.

One of Nashville’s greatest assets has been, and continues to be, its ability to spin a narrative, to publicly present itself as “not like” other cities of the former Confederacy.

It’s why few people know about the post-integration bombing of Hattie Cotton Elementary, or this.

Sooooo did she wanna check in now? 3 or 4 years ago there were COUNTLESS convos/zooms about how country music needed to be more inclusive. This was directly after the MW situation. Tons of conversations and no action. Please be for real.

Kudos to the reporter who pushed back on Wynonna’s assessment that Beyoncé’s country foray will automatically make the country music industry more inclusive.

Evidently she has missed all the previous “conversations” that resulted in zero change.

The numbers are dire for Country Music Association awards for Black artists but let’s not forget Charley Pride won Entertainer of the Year in 1971 and Male Vocalist in 1971 and 1972.

I need the Black audience to pull up to CMA Fest, Americanafest, and any other country music gatherings from here on out, but ESPECIALLY this summer. We need the institutions to see that country music appeals to us too!

Alright!! People be lovin on the Queen B Caro Mio Ben interpolation, cool! - turns out there's a little history to black female vernacular singers interpreting opera/art song - my first exposure was Nina Simone doing 'O Black Swan' (Menotti) in 1963.
