Last fall I wrote a story about the lack of basketball courts in Beverly, Chicago, and last night it won a Peter Lisagor Award for Best Community Reporting!!

Girl…I spent half of my career translating in newsrooms for those who couldn’t speak Spanish. Never got paid additional for that skill. Once had a producer say “say that in Español now?” Ugh

Being called “Queen” by a Black woman is one of the greatest displays of respect & praise. It made my heart smile. Not just bc she thinks I’m worthy of the title but bc she gets to walk into class every day & see herself in someone that she knows also sees the queen in her (2/3)
