Curtis Iburg, sterilization services manager for UI Dentistry, received the 2024 Innovation in Safety Award for his leadership of a major renovation of the college's instrument processing space. Congrats, Curtis!
Min Zhu, research specialist in UI Dentistry's Iowa Inst. for Oral Health Research, received the 2024 Distinguished Research Professional Award. Zhu has worked in the college since 2006, and is widely valued as a mentor and collaborator among her colleagues.
Angie Robertson, department admin for Department of Microbiology and Immunology in Carver College of Medicine, received the 2024 Distinguished Research Administrator Award. Robertson oversees daily operations for the department and manages nearly 100 research grants.
Bob McMurray, Prof. in Psychology at The University of Iowa, is one of two recipients of UIOWA Undergraduate Research's Distinguished Mentor Award. McMurray was nominated by Hannah Franke, an undergrad who works in his lab.
Caroline Clay (Caroline Clay), @uiowaCLAS asst. prof. in theatre arts, is one of two recipients of UIOWA Undergraduate Research's Distinguished Mentor Award. An accomplished actress, Clay supports students in her courses and in theatre productions outside of class time.
.Cara Hamann, MPH, PhD, Assoc. Prof. in University of Iowa Public Health, received the 2024 Communicating Ideas Award. A traffic safety expert, Hamann's recent op-ed about a loophole in crosswalk laws was republished in more than 50 news outlets across the US.
Kaveh Akbar, Assoc. Prof. in UI Dept. of English, received the 2024 Distinguished Achievement in Arts and Humanities Research Award. Akbar's new novel, Martyr!, was published to critical acclaim in January.

Stephen Warren, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa prof. in history, received the 2024 the Distinguished Achievement in Publicly Engaged Research Award. Warren studies Native American culture, working closely with Shawnee Tribe and co-authoring his most recent book with Chief Ben Barnes.
Donna Santillan, Carver College of Medicine research professor and director of the Women’s Health Tissue Repository, received the 2024 Leadership in Research Award. Santillan's work has been cited 2,700 times, and she has mentored 114 early career scientists and students during her career.
Meet James Byrne, assistant prof. of Radiation Oncology in Carver College of Medicine, 2024 Early Career Scholar of the Year. A physician scientist, Byrne develops novel biomedical therapies for cancer while continuing to treat patients. Congrats, Dr. Byrne!
