Conrado has been cutting lettuce for 30 years in the Salinas CA area. He works 8-10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. He shares that it is hard work because he has to bend down all day long. In a 10 hour work day his crew of 38 cuts 1600 to 1800 boxes of romaine hearts. #WeFeedYou

Farm workers in Atwater CA are starting their day of planting sweet potatoes. They earn minimum wage, working no more than 40 hours a week, making it difficult to support thier families. #WeFeedYou

Farm work is challenging and skilled labor which deserves high pay and respectful working conditions. Labor rights must be part of the fight for a more just and sustainable agricultural system!

Infections in dairy workers are likely going uncounted.

Farm workers, especially dairy workers urgently need:
-Practical PPE, and training on proper use
-Paid sick leave
-Widespread testing and treatment

Resources must go to both the affected industry and the front line workers at the very highest risk. Without economic support, farm workers will not be able to get tested or to stay home while they recover.

Their physical risks and social risks are exceedingly high.

We urge every agency and stakeholder to ensure workers will have equitable access to resources to prevent contagion, and that workers who experience exposure or symptoms are able to test knowing they will be able to have financial support while recovering.

We are losing time.

A second confirmed case of H5N1 avian flu has been reported, this time in Michigan. Once again, the infected person is a dairy farm worker.
