The Monument's golden orb was regilded in real 24-carat gold in 2008. It is only 0.5 microns in thickness - that's 200 times smaller than a human hair!

Almost 300 years ago, in 1732, a visitor to The Monument managed to run all the way to the top and all the way back down in only 2 ½ minutes!

You'll find The Monument just a stone's throw away from, you guessed it, Monument Tube Station, in the heart of London.

Did you know it took just over six years to build The Monument? The stone structure commemorates The Great Fire of London and was erected to celebrate the rebuilding of the City over 50 years.

The stone staircase has over 300 stairs, leading to the viewing platform 160ft up!
