Our volunteers have been busy collecting rubbish and plastic washed up by recent high tides. It's great to see all these items removed from the beach before they cause more damage to the marine environment. Thanks Chris, Emily & Mike (& CJ🐾) #saveourseas #beachclean #volunteers

Tees Rivers Trust were at North Gare last week planting seagrass. They're aiming to restore it to the Tees Estuary & surrounding coastline. Its a key part of carbon capture and makes a fantastic habitat.

The Seaton Carew Sea Swimmers from Hartlepool recently joined us at the Seal Sands to learn about the history of our seals at the Seal Sands. We were joined by the BDMLR Area Coordinator who also shared great facts on our colony of Common and Grey Seals. bdmlr.org.uk/what-to-do-if

To celebrate our seals on International Seal Day in March we organised a seal watch and everyone enjoyed learning more about these amazing 'pinnipeds'. Did you know we have Common and Grey Seals at the Seal Sands!

We recently caught up with DurhamWildlifeTrust/ExploreSeaScapes for a Coastal Bird Walk at North Gare beach. In 2 hours we saw 18 species of birds! Please give these birds the space they need to rest and keep your dogs on a lead to limit disturbance. Photos courtesy of Richard Cowan.

Did you know North Gare and Seal Sands are both part of the Teesmouth National Nature Reserve? Managed by Natural England this covers over 350 hectares of dunes, grazing marsh and one of the largest areas of intertidal mudflats on the north-east coast!

After a well earned Christmas break our volunteers were back at Teesmouth NNR this week. One of our regular volunteers Chris did a great job at removing some of the rubbish from the beach which had been washed up over the holidays. That's a lot of lobster pots!

Conservation grazing creates vegetation at different heights & areas of bare ground during winter, making it ideal for a wide range of wildlife. Wildflowers grow, flower & set seed each year-providing pollen/nectar for invertebrates & increasing invertebrates as food for birds.

If you were at North Gare beach today you may have seen one of our volunteers, Chris, who does a great job keeping the North Gare beach clean for our visitors and wildlife. Chris joined Natural England as a volunteer at Teesmouth National Nature Reserve in May this year.👏👏
