The Stage 3 tax cuts were irresponsible for a few other reasons that are more long-term-structurally-important than this.

When I criticised Stage 3 tax cuts (both the original and amended), one of the responses was 'we might need the extra demand by then.

With a 3.6% inflation rate , I think we can put that idea to bed.

Well, that's ugly: Monthly CPI rises to 3.6% in April.

Only a month, of course. And perhaps volatile. But an increase is an increase, and (obviously, but importantly) it's not a decrease, which was hoped for.

And excluding 'volatile' items remains high at 4.1%

With apologies to those who work there, the reduction of funds in higher-fee retail Superannuation funds is no disaster.
