This image from our archives shows a figure skater at #Southampton Ice Rink in 1966. The original rink was destroyed in the Blitz but rebuilt in 1952. After a refurbishment by Top Rank in the #1960s it closed in 1988. Image copyright unknown #SotonAfterDark #IceRink #IceSkating

Edward Harris was one of the many #Titanic crew members who lost their lives when the liner sank on 15 April 1912. His heartbroken parents sent this memorial card to let friends and family know of their loss. Today, the card is a poignant exhibit SeaCity Museum #OTD #Southampton

This menu was served on board Canadian Pacific liner, Empress of Britain on Easter Day 1939.
Empress of Britain was the largest, fastest, and most luxurious liner that travelled between #Southampton and Canada in the 1930s.

Moses Roper was born into enslavement in North Carolina in 1815. He escaped to Britain, where he published an account of his life. He visited #Southampton in July 1839, speaking at the Baptist Chapel in East Street about the horrors of slavery #RememberSlavery
Beverley came to #Southampton from Jamaica in 1971 to train as an intensive care nurse. She had distinguished career in the NHS, setting up Southampton’s Stoma Care service.
