Yesterday I went to Home Depot to get a sack of garden pebbles. I asked a burly employee where they were and he led me to a pile of them. I pulled on one and couldn't make it move an inch. He just walked away. Must be my resemblance to Ah-nold 😂.

I'm working on a proposal for a book 'Against Socrates,' arguing that his method set a bad precedent for healthy democratic discourse for multiple reasons.

When Socrates practiced philosophy by dialectic questioning, he got to pick all the questions, thus giving reality a certain shape that suited his own purpose even before including his interlocutor. And in not allowing return questions, he controlled the power. Philosophy??

I finally get it.

When Socrates embarrasses Callicles into silence in the Gorgias, he's disproving Callicles' claim not to care about nomos. (But still, it's a weird use of dialectic).

I didn't set out to be the voice speaking up for Bob Zimmer's legacy of a calm space for discourse in American higher education. And yet here I am.

So people, if the consensus is that we are not ethically superior, why do we feel free to condemn the past?

The new administration may have shut down our inter-divisional institute in secrecy, they may have disregarded the university’s distinguishing values, but they can’t take away my voice. I am going to speak up on Twitter till kingdom come 🙏.
