1/ For Institute for Government’s latest report, we gathered data on how often regulators appear before select committees - nearly a third of the regulators we identified have not been seen by a committee since December 2019. 🧵

Thoughts on civil service unions, Israel/Gaza, Rwanda & international law from Jordan Urban & me

Trade unions are right to demand clarity about civil servants’ legal & professional obligations but should steer clear of wider arguments about govt policy

Looking forward to this event & the launch of our paper on top talent in the civil service. Does civil service culture make it hard to thrive as an external recruit? What skills does the civil service need from expert outsiders? Come along & hear more!

Hard to see the case against paying top officials more. We need the best & salaries are now so far off the private sector.

I like the Singaporean model. Pay top officials according to a benchmark against the professions (e.g. lawyer, accountant) they might opt for instead.
