In China this would have been expressed in numbers of days, not years.

We need to re-figure out how to make physical things with haste if we want to be a competitive society.

It’s weird to think of “deprecating” polynomials. That’s what ML is doing. For around 3 centuries polynomials have ruled as the de-facto go-to model for modeling natural phenomena.

Now, automatically generated models will reign supreme for a few centuries.

Why is the plane held up at the gate for so long? Now airports, airliners, and pilots can know precisely how long each stage takes, and where to improve.

If a non-profit benefits from tax-free status, any software it produces must be open-source, since the software and IP was partially publicly funded. What's your opinion?

'I wonder for people in their 20s if they shouldn't go to San Francisco.

The entrepreneurs are held in excessively high regard in my view.

I think that San Francisco doesn't really encourage the pursuit of really deep technical depth.'

This was discussed a bit in terms of Psychology here. experimental-history.com/p/im-so-sorry-…

TL;DR 60% of 100 psychology papers failed to replicate and few in the field cared. Doesn't that imply the research was worthless to begin with?

The SAT is too easy. 10s of thousands of students get a perfect score on math SAT, roughly same as # students admitted to top 5 universities.

As an applicant, your proficiency in math cannot help distinguish your application.

This is absurd. Stop watering down admissions.

18 years ago tomorrow, I landed in Silicon Valley to work on Google Translate team (which created the Transformer), & trained the world's largest language models at the time. Today, I'm even more excited by what SV will invent as that LM knowledge has spread to all of SV.

The world's most advanced rocket and car factories now use Matroid. This, coupled with outstanding revenue growth over the past 4 years has made me incredibly proud of the Matroid team. LFG 2024!!!

I remember so many researchers who confidently pronounced “but words/sentences/paragraphs is not a vector!!”

Here we are shoving *the entire internet* into a few vectors.

How it started:
