Florence Nightingale was born #onthisday in 1820. Queen Victoria admired the work done by Nightingale to improve nursing during the Crimean War, noting in her Journal: 'I envy her being able to do so much good and look after the noble heroes whose behaviour is admirable'.

Are you a #Eurovision fan? You may not have heard of 'Swedish nightingale' soprano Jenny Lind, a famous 19th C singer. Queen Victoria attended a performance by Lind in May 1847 & wrote that the singer possessed ‘the most exquisite, powerful, & really quite peculiar voice’.
