Amazon periodically alerts me to dirt-cheap Kindle versions of older crime novels, presumably produced as items lapse out of copyright, including this bizarre Exorcist-themed version of Agatha Christie’s debut.

A fair, compassionate, and typically fact-based, analysis of likely Long Covid prevalence/risk here. We care for people with Long Covid by acknowledging them, counting them properly, and advocating for them. Exaggerating risks and numbers actively detracts from that cause.

Off to see the film Cahiers du Cinéma declared 2023’s best, which given that (a) I hated the film they thought was 2022’s best and (b) this is well over four hours long, is taking a bit of a risk. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trenque_L…

Donald Trump is largely very unpopular if not ridiculed in the UK, which makes senior Conservative figures extolling his virtues a less than ideal strategic move in advance of our own election.

My inner land lawyer is *loving* this house listing (which includes a letter from solicitors):
£130k for a landlocked house, with no utilities.
Sale organised by mortgagee out of possession.

Previous VONCs suggest, I think, that about half of letter-writers go public, so I’d be very sceptical of this sort of claim when it is literally only Andrea Jenkyns on the record.

This requirement doesn’t exist in the more recent Scottish offences, which is a useful example of the advantages of going second with any particular bit of law reform: you get to look over someone else’s carefully worked out legal text and refine it further.

I’m often critical of “changes” to the law which change nothing or amount to adding a few months to sentences.

But credit is due for this. I’ve lost cases when prosecuting due to the narrow definition of sexual activity in presence of a child. Broadening this is a positive step.

in Glasgow for funeral of one of my professors my student days. Professor Orucu was inspiring and her eulogy reflected a life well lived. Been thinking about the role legal academics play in shaping lawyers as much as shaping the law. Do we always give them credit for that?

People do these elaborate takes about Trump’s authoritarian aspirations and then he just comes out and says the president should be allowed to do infinite crimes

This is a useful example of how technical terms common to a particular community can cause bemusement when they reach a wider audience. Actually “double-fisted” is a common phrase in underground sex clubs.
