I have a cartoon in the current Private Eye. It’s for that niche of people who enjoy cetaceans and learning French at school decades ago.

This unusual building is not a museum, theatre, or town hall.

It's an old carpet factory in Scotland.

But why would somebody design a factory to look like a Gothic palace? Because the owner had no other choice...

I want to tell you a story about last night and kindness, so settle in or move on depending on your inclination. A little while ago I wrote a book called and was invited last night to the Hatchards ‘Authors of the Year’ reception. Invited - I assume - by mistake.

Without a solid start in life with arts & cultural education: music, theatre, dance, film… this generation of children will be poorer problem solvers, team players, leaders, understanding of different cultures, emotionally intelligent & creative. Arts education is not a luxury.

One of my favourite poets Imtiaz Dharker is appearing at Khushwant Singh Literary Festival London soon. She’s has various v good collections, but I’ve been reading her (here’s a wee bit) in Pádraig Ó Tuama’s Poetry Unbound: 50 Poems to Open Your World collection from Canongate this morning. It delivers.
