Alarmist nonsense. The AfD was on 18% five years ago - and at that time, its “horseshoe“ mirror Die Linke (likewise, anti-EU, anti-NATO, leaning pro-Russian and Eastern-based) was on 10%. The centre is actually holding very well, so stop talking up populism.

The teen mental health crisis was not caused by reality getting worse around 2012. Their material and physical health improved steadily. To paraphrase Epictetus: 'It is not events which disturb teens. It is the device through which they interpret all events.'…

With the staggering number of journalists killed in Gaza, there is no way to interpret this as unintended collateral. With Shireen Abu Akleh & Issam Abdallah, there can be no dispute that they were intentionally murdered by the IDF, and that pattern looks like policy in Gaza now.

The idea that Britain’s problem is its economic forecasts, rather than its stagnating economic reality, is bonkers.

There’s a tweet that’s gone viral about how the media didn’t cover the Post Office scandal - but it has been. Drama is a powerful tool for making people care but passionate journalists have been working at this for years

Too much “business-as-usual” in Rishi Sunak’s remarks about the sub-postmasters this morning. He doesn’t get the scale of the national outrage. He should have announced Alan Johnson as head of new compensation agency, with all claims generously settled this year and bill sent to…

Just to remind everyone especially those who look down on specialist mags ComputerWeekly led way on this with Rebecca Thomson's piece in 2009 (15 years ago!) & then Karl Flinders investigations. richard brooks Private Eye Magazine & Nick Wallis also did great work. Bryan Glick

Good from Keegan as usual. Labour's 'red wall' fixation is just the modern equivalent of Herbert Morrison's remark when asked about the UK joining the nascent Coal and Steel Community: The Durham Miners Won't Wear It. theguardian.com/business/2024/…

German democracy really is the frog in boiling water. The AfD just climbs and climbs – now a staggering 22%, eight points higher than the third-place SPD – and pundits continue to act like this is totally normal and actually fine

Perhaps it's embarrassing to Russia that it must seek military aid from North Korea. Certainly it's embarrassing to rich, democratic countries when North Korea helps Russia more than they help Ukraine.

right now: Tens of thousands of Israelis are back on the streets tonight demanding @Netanyahu ouster and new elections. NOW.

It’s not the media’s job - and it sure as hell ain’t mine - to ‘respect’ any political party’s ‘ambitions’ or ‘aspirations’ & those that routinely conflate their party’s goals with those of the nation as a whole merit particular contempt.

Tens of millions want this man to be president. Again. It's not that they don't have options -- Republican options. They have several. But they want him. Which says more about us, as a nation, than about him.
