🇧🇧 In addition to the CHAT, several NHC staff are also in Barbados CIMH this week with University Corporation for Atmospheric Research and meteorologists from Caribbean countries to discuss storm surge vulnerability and tools for assessing storm surge risk in the region before a hurricane threat.

🇧🇸🌀NHC is participating in the 2024 Caribbean Hurricane Awareness Tour (CHAT) this week. Today Hurricane Hunters, NOAA Aircraft Operations Center, and NHC are in Nassau, Bahamas, to help get emergency managers, media, and residents of the Bahamas ready for the upcoming hurricane season.

The World Meteorological Organization Hurricane Committee has retired #Otis and #Dora from the list of eastern Pacific names, replacing them with #Otilio and #Debora . Note that no names were retired from the Atlantic basin list--the first time since 2014.

The annual World Meteorological Organization Hurricane Committee Meeting is underway this week in Panama City, Panama. As part of the meeting, the committee will review the 2023 hurricane season and decide whether to retire and replace any of the names from last year's Atlantic and eastern Pacific lists.

NHC has released the Tropical Cyclone Report for Hurricane #Hilary (August 16-20, 2023). Hilary made landfall as a tropical storm in Baja California, Mexico, and brought tropical storm conditions and catastrophic flooding to portions of the Southwest U.S.

The National Hurricane Center will begin issuing an experimental Tropical Cyclone Forecast Cone Graphic on our around August 15, 2024, that includes inland tropical storm and hurricane watches and warnings for the continental U.S.
