Today we proudly share a link to a 3D model of the memorial to Sir Frederick Lewis Maitland (famed for capturing Napoleon in 1815).

This model was created by students from the University of Portsmouth. The original is in St Ann’s Church (Portsmouth).

Today marks the 215th anniversary of the Second Battle of Porto (1809).

This battle was one of Wellington’s most dramatic victories. It effectively ended the Second French invasion of Portugal.

He died on active service aboard his flagship in Alexandria harbour in 1807.

Elizabeth was 5 when she (and her mother Mary) helped care for the British wounded during the battle.

She is buried in Brockley & Ladywell Cemetery (London).
