Today marks the 215th anniversary of the Second Battle of Porto (1809).

This battle was one of Wellington’s most dramatic victories. It effectively ended the Second French invasion of Portugal.

We remember all those who fought on the banks of the Douro on this day.

Today we wish Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Louis, (one of Nelson’s Band of Brothers), a very happy birthday!

Born on this day in 1758.

He died on active service aboard his flagship in Alexandria harbour in 1807.

He is buried in Fort Saint Elmo Valletta, Southern Harbour, Malta.

Today marks the 215th anniversary of the Battle of Grijó (1809).

During this two-day engagement Wellington’s Anglo-Portuguese army defeated a French army (under Marshal Soult) during the Second French invasion of Portugal.

We remember all those who fought at Grijó on this day.

Today we wish Antoine Charles Louis de Lasalle, French cavalry general during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, a very happy birthday!

Born on this day in 1775.

He is buried in Invalides (Paris).

Today marks the 228th anniversary of Napoleon leading the French Army of Italy to victory at the Battle of Lodi (1796).

We respectfully remember all those who fought at Lodi on this day.

Today we wish Louis-Nicolas Davout, Marshal of the French Empire, a very happy birthday!

Born on this day in 1770.

He is buried in the Cimetière du Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

On this day in 1904 Elizabeth Watkins (the last survivor of Waterloo) died.

Elizabeth was 5 when she (and her mother Mary) helped care for the British wounded during the battle.

She is buried in Brockley & Ladywell Cemetery (London).

He is buried in Wawel Cathedral in Kraków (Poland).

Born on this day in 1764.

He is buried at the sight of the breach at Ciudad Rodrigo (Spain) where he was killed in action on the 19th January 1812.

On this exact day 203 years ago (1821) Napoleon Bonaparte 1st Emperor of France died at Longwood House on St Helena.

He is now buried in a magnificent tomb under the ornate Église du Dôme des Invalides in Paris.

Today marks the 225th anniversary of the storming of Seringapatam (1799).

This was a key event in the conquest of Southern India and resulted in the defeat of the Tipu Sultan (the ruler of Mysore).

Today marks the 215th anniversary of the battle of Ebelsberg (1809).

During this engagement Marshal Masséna defeated an Austrian army under the command of General Johann von Hiller.

We remember all those who fought on the banks of the Traun river (Austria) on this day.

On this day in 1848, Lieutenant-General Hans Ernst Karl, Graf von Zieten (famed for his command of the Prussian I Corps at Waterloo) died.

Zieten’s actions throughout the Waterloo campaign made a significant contribution to the allied victory.

RIP General Zieten.

Today marks the 213th anniversary of the start of the battle of Fuentes de Oñoro (1811).

During this battle an Anglo-Portuguese Army (under Wellington) checked an attempt by Masséna to relieve the city of Almeida.
