81% of voters oppose the Open Public Records Act bill that passed NJ's State Senate & General Assembly last week. The Senators listed below blithely passed 'reform' that will obstruct public access to public records. Where is the bill now? Sitting on the governor's desk.

We urge Governor Phil Murphy to stand up for democracy & veto S2930.

“NJ deserves accountable government, this bill is not that. This bill absolutely rolls back progress and it’s a step back into darkness. We all know democracy dies in darkness,” Sarah Fajardo said.

🚨 Today, the Legislature passed bills that rollback the public access to public records.

☎️Now the bill heads to Governor Phil Murphy's desk. Call Gov. Murphy and tell him to veto the bill.

This is not the way to regain people’s trust in our government or politics. I am incredibly disappointed this rushed, flawed, and destructive bill has passed the legislature today. For the sake of transparency and accountability, it deserves a swift veto by the Governor.

'So, the push to gut the 20-year-old
OPRA law seemed out of step, a tone-deaf throwback to the traditional political calculus that voters ultimately don’t care. It’s an ethos that shapes much of the policy in Trenton.'

'It’s no secret why legislative leaders — the bill’s sponsors include Sen. Paul Sarlo & Assemblyman Joe Danielsen — want to feed the current version of the Open Public Records Act into a shredder. The law has been used to uncover all sorts of malfeasance by them and their pals.'

It’s clear: S29093/A4045 is ❌ FATALLY FLAWED ❌

We need to be building for MORE government transparency and accountability, not putting up barriers to accessing resources, programs, and information. Our public records BELONG TO US.

These videos were acquired via OPRA. NJ lawmakers are currently working overtime to make OPRA a useless tool so that *YOU* - the public - cannot hold them accountable. Legislative committees are voting tomorrow & Friday. Don't let them run govt like it's their own fiefdom.

Broad coalition of folks from all sides oppose this anti-democratic bill gutting OPRA & the move for NJ legislature is… to move it out in Senate today + in Assembly in a rare Friday session. 🤯
