Sorry but the way she's managed to make 5 years working at the BoE post-graduation sound like she's Mario Draghi is so funny

Sky News interviewed an illegal migrant who was detained for Rwanda.

“I’m scared about Rwanda…I got a hope. I can stay if the Labour Party will win.”

He should have already been deported but it’s not a bright future for the UK if illegal migrants are hopeful of a Labour govt.

As far as I can make out, Labour's main plan on housing is to hope councils sign off on whole new towns (there's no coercion mechanism) and then hope private finance pays for them (despite their being 40% price-controlled housing).

Come on, guys.

I also worked at the Bank of England - for seven years in the 1990s and am convinced it’s as important to challenge the Old Lady of Threadneedle St as to echo it. I witnessed how it got the ERM completely wrong, squandering billions in defending it and causing mortgage misery.

National Service

Well, it's been a fascinating few hours.

This isn't a new subject, I and many others have discussed it at length over the years.

Many of the initial reactions were obviously a tribal reflex, straight in with the dismissals, and it must be said, some great

How is this family here?

The Husband was here for 5 years before his family arrived, which he could only do by claiming asylum, but he would have had to fly back to Afghanistan, several times to impregnate his wife.

This is absolute cakeism though. And where does the money for the ‘immediate injection’ come from given you’re matching Tory tax and spending plans? (And your revenue-raisers probably won’t raise revenue?)

Has Google ever done anything good beyond search and maps?

Seems to me that everything else they have tried failed abysmally.

16 year olds:

Can serve in the armed forces but only with parental permission but can’t fight in a war.
Can’t drive.
Can’t marry.
Can’t buy alcohol or cigarettes.
Can’t even buy scissors.
Can’t be named when charged with a crime.

Somehow Labour think votes at 16 is fine.

Good Grief. CPI inc food and energy is 2.3%. Core CPI, not inc food and energy, is 3.9%. It's therefore not monopoly in food and energy, is it? Perhaps it would help if an economics professor could bother to actually read the economic statistics? ons.gov.uk/economy/inflat…

The USA literally spent over a decade saying 'There's some dudes that look like combatants if you squint hard. Let's drop a bomb on that public square'. No warrant for Obama.

Syria bombed and gassed civilians. No warrant for Assad.

Saudis bombed and starved 300k Yemeni...

I understand people's instinctive reaction to the National service plan but it's a free ride for Sunak.

He's already lost that age group and it polls well with older Tories and Reform voters he needs back.

Wales' (apparently real) foreign service lost part of its budget to cover overruns on a Uguandan tree planting scheme.

Its (also real) foreign aid blob seems to have been winning the internal battle to define Drakeford's Africa Strategy.

But will Gething opt for harder power?
