In video captions, spell out units of measurement, such as 'inches,' 'feet,' 'yards,' 'miles,' 'ounces,' 'pounds,' and 'tablespoons.' However, if spoken in shortened form, use symbols. For example, if the original narration is 'I'm five eight,' then 5'8' is more readable.

Do not rely on the A.I.-generated alt text in Facebook or Instagram. The result is vague and useless, like 'may be an image of food and text,' and 'may be an image of outdoors.' These do nothing to give users the context and content of an image.

If a post isn’t accessible, it’s unfinished.

If a podcast doesn’t have a transcript, it’s unfinished.

Finished content and documents are accessible. They reach more people. They give people choices. They win more fans.

For audio-only content like podcasts, provide a transcript. For videos with audio, provide both transcripts and captions. In the transcripts and captions, include the spoken information and sounds that are important for understanding the content.

In the 11th hour of the longest school year of all time, Rebekah O’Dell and I got tired of explaining what plagiarism is to students. So, I made a decision tree. It’s helping our kiddos! Hope it helps yours too πŸ˜‡
