I’ve spoken to many Jewish people about Zionism and one thing is for sure, non-Jewish people should listen A LOT more, and every Jewish person I’ve talked has a complex and nuanced relationship with Zionism, whether they identify as Zionists or not.

This thread is great 👇🏽

That horrible antisemitism bill attacks academic Jewish scholarship in favor of protecting Israel. Like I’ve been saying. It’s not about Jews. It’s about Israel. Your fealty to a nation state is putting Jewish lives and culture and scholarship at risk

Just an FYI for people referencing the Civil Rights Movement as the ideal and legal means of protesting, students sitting in at lunch counters, in movie theaters, in bus terminals and marching in public parks were violating laws and ordinances and agents of the state were also…

I hope everyone on here talking about 'occupying private property is wrong and the police response is warranted' realizes that they're publicly admitting they would have opposed the Civil Rights Movement

I am watching a toddler die on a table in a field hospital in Rafah with half her face blown apart while listening to college students fight tears reporting on a police assault on their campus for protesting that, and I feel like I am losing my fucking mind.

What do you think will happen if you keep casually conflating American student protestors with Hamas and terrorist groups? Or in the case of some politicians, explicitly calling them Hamas and terrorists?

You're putting a target on American kids. Dangerous, reckless, and wrong.

The main danger to our community tonight was the huge armed police presence requested on campus by admin - not protesters. A wholly disproportionate response that provoked disruption, fear & frustration across the whole wider community, not just Columbia.

Your semi-regular reminder that the US Supreme Court has, repeatedly, determined that the police has no constitutional duty to protect civilians.

Police were quite literally throwing tables and pushing students down the stairs until one passed out. Inviting the NYPD onto campus at Columbia University University has both destroyed more property and endangered more people than the original occupation of the building.

It’s hard to believe these vague headlines when the US has been known to use “terrorist” to justify the murder of anybody who poses a threat to the empire.

It sounds to me like the state is trying to justify horrific violence against Columbia students.

I hope to be wrong.

The disproportionate overreaction by CU and the NYPD is exactly why we’ve been asking to defund the police. If the school couldn’t handle protests, they needed mediators, not cops!

This is not how we want our local taxes spent. This is state violence against students!

This is wild.

An army in response to students asking for divestment. An army in response to students who don’t want their school to fund any part of a genocide.

This is so out of control.
It just started raining hard too, hopefully the rain and thunder keeps escalation from happening.

I know some of these students. They are thoughtful, caring, and distraught by what the state of Israel is doing to Palestinians, and failing to do for Israeli hostages. I stand in solidarity with them.

These accusations are dangerous, inflammatory and very concerning.

Netanyahu vows to invade Rafah ‘with or without a deal.’

How could students not protest against this?

The atmosphere was thick around Columbia tonight.

Proud of Union students standing in protest to Sean Feucht, Eric Metaxas and other dangerous Christian nationalists. Proud of faculty and staff Union Seminary too.

I am really happy that she got to exercise her 1st amendment right, and that she was safe to do so. All students should have the same experience.

If you’re faculty at a university where there are protests, remember there are lots of ways to support, publicly & privately, tenured or not. Here’s a few:
-Know your faculty rights & rules
-Amplify protest info on your social media, privately to colleagues or in class
