Found out that students at my old high school are reading How the Word Is Passed in class, and as someone who wrote this book largely because it’s the sort of book I wish I had when I was in my American history class back then, this really means more than almost anything.

A white man walked into a grocery store in Boulder, killed 10 people, and was apprehended by the police and walked out of the building completely unharmed.

Right down the street, police killed Elijah McClain while he apologized for not doing anything wrong.

Just days ago, the NRA celebrated that a Colorado judge struck down a life-saving ban on AR-15-style assault weapons in the city of Boulder.

This says everything.

Over and over again, the NRA fights common-sense gun reform measures. The cost is human lives. #DissolveTheNRA

As horrifying reports continue to emerge from Colorado, my heart is with the victims, their families, and the Boulder community.

Once again, a gunman has turned a public space into a site of tragedy.

We don’t have to live in fear like this. We must pass commonsense gun reforms.

Aurora Theater.

Arapahoe High School.

Thornton Walmart.

STEM School.

Boulder King Soopers.

All since I was in high school and all within 20 miles of me and my family. I'm sick of this shit.

We know this feeling too well in Colorado.

We felt it during Columbine.
We felt it during the Aurora Mall.
We felt it during the Thornton Walmart.
We felt it during the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood.
We feel it now today for Boulder.

WE NEED GUN CONTROL NOW.

People like Lauren Boebert who normalize aggressive and confrontational gun ownership in Colorado are a part of the toxic, violent gun culture that showed up today in Boulder.

Let’s call this what it is - a political stunt.

I never stacked guns on a bookshelf when at war, let alone on a zoom in my living room.

Unless you’re on patrol in Afghanistan, this is the right way to store a gun.

Stigma prevents survivors from getting the help they need.

It makes a difference when leaders stand up and say it’s okay to get help.

Just going to pre-announce my skepticism of future criticisms of vaccine-creation efforts which are sure to be condemned as wasteful in the future. Fuck that. We need to invest in many options that may not work as if they will. Cheap and fast doesn’t exist.
