It was my honor to introduce Truth Thomas, as Howard County’s first ever Poet Laureate. Thank you for captivating audiences with your writing and reading, but also speaking to the collective issues, challenges, hoped, and dreams facing our community and beyond.

In partnership with Senator Ben Cardin, Senator Chris Van Hollen, and Congressman John Sarbanes, our County has received two Congressionally Directed Spending investments in active transportation this year. Thank you for your unwavering support for Howard County.

Today was a heartwarming celebration of the families, communities, and organizations that serve as the backbone of Howard County, making it the incredible place we all call home.

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of joining our community at the opening of the Legacy at Twin Rivers. This project is a step on our journey to improving access, providing all our residents with the right to safe, affordable housing, and making Howard County a better place.

This May, we will begin construction on a sidewalk connection between the Miller Branch Library, the Ellicott City 50+ Center, and the nearby Dunloggin community. This project will provide a safe walking route for our Dunloggin neighbors to reach their Library and 50+ Center.

Today, we unveiled Howard County’s first Public Garden at the Longwood property in Glenwood. Spanning nearly 100 acres, this sanctuary offers visitors the opportunity to explore and enjoy captivating nature, right here in our community.

In our FY25 Capital Budget, we are investing a historic $14.7 million to advance important active transportation projects in every corner of our county, better connecting our community. This multimodal transportation budget continues our track record of historic funding.
