Yesterday evening, President Tony Murphy met with Pascal Stirnimann, President of the Swiss Federal Audit Office, for an engaging exchange of views on common audit challenges.

The Swiss President's visit was for the ECA Peer Review field visit taking place this week.

🗨️ ‘No effort should be spared to recover misspent EU money without delay.

The 🇪🇺 owes this to taxpayers, and any failure to recover money would be detrimental to EU citizens’ trust’.

The EU auditors found that, while the European Commission ensures that irregular expenditure is recorded accurately and promptly, getting this money back often takes too long.

From 2014-2022, €14 billion of irregular EU expenditure was reported in all areas.
