I just keep waiting for this 'principled conservative' to save the Republican Party that some in the Never Trump movement talk about.

It's time to open your eyes, they aren't coming. Every GOP candidate has bent the knee to Trump or has been silenced.

Time to burn it all down

Judges matter.

They have the power to uphold basic rights or to roll them back.

They hear cases that decide whether Americans have the freedom to make their own health care decisions; to cast their ballots; to unionize; and to breathe clean air and drink clean water.

Today, we reached another milestone in the effort to protect the freedoms and liberties of all Americans:

The confirmation of the 200th federal judge since I took office.

🚨Rishi Sunak confirms July 4 election.

PM soaked by the rain outside No 10 while New Labour anthem 'Things Can Only Get Better' blasts out in background. Inauspicious start to campaign.

So while I don’t deny it’s possible Alito was flying this flag because of its truly deep cut connection to a specific kind Christian nationalism, I’ve seen conservatives flying it at various events over the last decade for varying reasons

I cannot imagine any circumstance in which Donald Trump admits he lost the 2024 election to Biden.

I can readily imagine Joe Biden admitting and accepting that he lost the 2024 election to Trump.

That determines my vote right there.

1) Talk to your friends & family about their plan to vote

2) If anyone you know is wary about Biden but isn’t firmly with Trump, start working on convincing them now

3) Volunteer for a campaign (including downballot races)

4) Donate

5) Try to stay optimistic & pace yourself

So when Nikki Haley said “It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him.” She really meant, he can treat me and my voters like garbage and I’ll still fall in line and support him.

(3) What does the flying of the Appeal flag suggest about the rationale given for the upside American flag in January 2021?

The new Alito story raises three distinct questions to me.

(1) Is it appropriate to fly the Appeal flag given its ideological relationship to the Tea Party/libertarianism?

(2) Did Alito only begin flying it around/after November 2020-January 2021, thus making it seriously bad?

A PRIMER ON what the Trump jury can do as to the 34 counts - which means 34 verdicts:

- convict on all counts (takes all 12 jurors)
-acquit on all counts (takes all 12)
-hang on all counts (12 don't agree on any count)
-acquit on some, hang on the rest (split verdict)
-convict

…quite literally built a house of cards that came crashing down as home values stopped appreciating as rapidly as they once were. Loans were given to people on the ability to tap the equity in their homes to service the debt.

I think about the arch of experiences leading into the pandemic and it is not hard to see why people feel bad.

This has not been an easy century thus far. We opened it with the bursting of the tech bubble, 9/11 and then as wages stagnated, we extended housing debt..

I have written a lot about differences in perceptions vs aggregate data. They are odd but I do think it is importantly to acknowledge that this has been an extraordinary time. Problems that were simmering pre pandemic came to a boil with pandemic.

More on the break between economic data & perceptions.

New Harris Guardian Poll reveals that majority of Americans believe we are in a recession. This despite other measures which show greater personal job security, with desire & confidence increasing in ability to switch jobs.

A bit of a bloodbath for incumbents in Idaho yesterday.

The highest ranking Republican in the Idaho senate, who has clashed with the far-right groups in the past, lost to a challenger last night.
