On this day in history, two firefighters were injured while fighting a fire that damaged or destroyed several businesses on 8th Ave and 14th St E on the evening of April 12, 1954.

The crew is thankful for warmer days when we have to decontaminate outside.

Decontamination is critical after a structure fire. Carcinogens can be absorbed, inhaled and ingested on a fire scene. Proper decontamination and rehabilitation procedures reduce exposures to carcinogens during these critical times.

On this day in 1972, a suspected arson fire in the McArthur Furniture building at 235, 10th Ave. SW. ultimately destroyed the building and its contents.
In a matter of minutes, fire blew out the windows and engulfed the whole building.

Calgary Firefighters were busy yesterday evening at a multi-resident structure fire in the SE. We remained throughout the night to make sure there is no continued spread of heat and fire in involved areas. Thankfully, no one was injured. #yyc #yyc fire
