I like to think that there are 3 types of ‘zones’ we can be in at any time:

1. Comfort - The zone where zero growth occurs.
2. Challenge - Just outside of comfort zone. This is where true growth occurs.
3. Collapse - Too far out of comfort zone. This is where injury or burnout

The very first session I told players to be ALL IN and go for the ‘black belt’ of their mind.

Halfway through MLM Class 8 and it’s clear that many of them will be saying “I’m glad I did”, rather than “I wish I had”.

Two things I learned when I hit rock bottom in 2009:

1. If you’re not getting the outcomes you want, it’s because it’s the challenge you need.

2. Expect athletics and life to be most challenging right before things get drastically better.

Please remember this the next time

It’s a fact: Better OFF the field = better ON the field.

The same mindset, strong identity, and set routines that will lead to your overall well-being skyrocketing OFF the field…is the exact same mindset, strong identity, and set routines that will lead to your performance

Getting the boys into a good, focused headspace pre-game last night with some breathwork and visualization.

1. Three slow, meaningful ‘Big League Breaths’ to quiet their minds, get present and connect to the best within them.

2. Repeat affirmations to set their intentions for

Chance favors the prepared.

It’s a powerful feeling when you know deep down to your core that you’ve prepared as best you can both mentally and physically.

You feel that you DESERVE to be confident and that you’ve EARNED the right to succeed.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

The Serenity Prayer is a great way to melt away pre-game anxiety and bring about a sense of calm confidence during competition.

3 things that are unavoidable for all of us: Pain, Uncertainty and Hard Work.

It all comes down to ACCEPTING this, rather than resisting it.

Accept that there will be ‘pain’ from time to time.

Accept that there will be uncertainty of what the future holds.

Accept that you’ll

A set ‘Flip the Switch’ routine is the quickest way to go from feeling negative and powerless, to positive and powerful.

It’s great to use before a big at-bat, a big test, a big presentation or really any time you’re stepping out of your comfort zone and may feel self-doubt or

Routines serve as a great foundation for athletes and help with overall mental and physical preparedness.

Having pre-game, in-game, and post-game routines and committing to them will:

- Stack the odds in your favor
- Help you quickly bounce back from any adversity that comes

EASE and COMFORT are greater threats to progress than hardship.

Stepping just outside of our comfort zone on a consistent basis is the ONLY way we can become who we’re meant to be.

Another way of putting it: Do something that sucks, but you know is good for you, every single

Raise your hand if you (or the ballplayer in your family) has ever had the fear of getting hit by a pitch? 🙋‍♂️

Does this negatively impact your ability to be comfortable in the box and hit with confidence?

Well guess what...fearing getting hit by a pitch is VERY common. Whether

Ancient Greek philosophers were on to something when they came up with the word Areté.

Areté is translated as excellence and you could summarize their philosophy (and mine) with that ONE word.

When we strive for EXCELLENCE in everything that we do and have a super high
