There are very few places in America that are like this. Of those, they all share essentially one trait which isn't at all pictured:

They have one of these, and in about an hour it takes you to something like this. The 5-50k town is completely nonviable without this feature

Cold equation, you can't have this ever unless some awful stuff gets done to get it.
Also whatever comes after will have to look very different than right now. In essence you'll need new states to ensure the small towns are not controlled at the state level by large cities

Most urbanists would love for small town America to be beautiful and flourishing. To be viable they usually need access to the economy (cities). Unfortunately, since we’ve centered our entire civilization on cars, most low density places in America look like this. Strong Towns
